Re: Is the little Ticket crumbling ?
Friedo's a great producer but I think the ticket will recover...

Cowboys are still with The Ticket. I can't imagine Jerry making the mistake of moving anywhere else. other station who must not be named...? Really?

But, even if the Cowboys left... would you really listen to another station?

The Stars are a great addition to the station. Not as big as the Mavs, Boys or Rangers but still big.

I don't think there's much reason to fret unless evil empire or other station who must not be named... puts personalities on the air that anyone cares about. Those stations are so corporate that even if they have an interesting addition, you'd never know it because thier programming is so rigid.

Maybe I'm just a homer but I'm not worried at all.

Re: Is the little Ticket crumbling ?

I heard a lot of talk this week on the air about people still predicting the demise of the little ticket.

Why don't the hosts name names? Who are "they" (to quote Junior, among others)?

I haven't heard or seen any comment by anybody in radio circles talking about the destruction of the ticket. Of course, since I listen almost exclusively to the ticket, I wouldn't hear what other stations are saying. :)

Long live Crunch McCormick!

Re: Is the little Ticket crumbling ?
Don't know how this post will play on this forum, but there hear are my thoughts.

No big secret The Ticket has been wildly successful bucking industry trends. When your newest day time show is 10 years old....it's something special.

And as evidenced by the 15 year anniversary party, they've managed to cultivate a near cultlike following among their listeners by making them feel part of the 'fraternity.' They squashed the competition while somehow maintaining the facade they are an underdog/little engine that could. With the exception of the weak signal, they are the 800 lbs gorilla in the room.

The only thing that can threaten them is a sudden ratings decline, an exodus of talent or a radical change in format. The only risk to the first one is the unknown of the new PPM ratings module which could tighten up the race. The last one seems highly unlikely unless a complete moron buys the station with the intent of running it into the ground....or Clear Channel gets interested. I guess that's the same thing.

There seems to be a slight increase in risk on the middle one based on rumblings, hints, tea leaves or general paranoia.

There seems to be general concern over the financial health of Cumulus. I have a friend who is a GM in another market for them and says its VERY ugly right now. Ticket hosts seem to make overtures about the financial issues not being what they once were. The main competition is the deep pockets of evil empire and the CBS owned 'Fan.'

evil empire has slowly made ground. Like him or not Galloway is a local force and Irvin (despite constant Ticket ridicule) gets really good guests and is often a good show. The killer right now for them is a lack of a morning show with any local DFW appeal.

While 'other station who must not be named...' gets dismissed by casual fans for employing Ticket 'JV', keep in mind those guys learned something while they were there. And when nothing opens up for for 10 years, their JV status may not be for lack of talent. CBS may have the deep pockets to make a run at some of the on-air talent. They are a Norm or Bob (sans Dan) away from some serious local sports credibility.

Plus both channels offer the opportunity for growth into other media that may be appealing.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Ticket and would hate to see it change. You know the Day 1 hosts aren't going anywhere and they can likely plug the openings easily and remain the big boy on the block without missing a beat. But we'd be naive to think the current lineup/format will last forever.
