Dirk Nowitzki travels to Minnesota, Dennis Smith Jr. will miss 15th game of the season as he nurses back injury

Dirk Nowitzki, who missed Wednesday’s victory over Phoenix due to an illness, traveled with the Mavericks to Minneapolis on Thursday and is listed as probable for Friday’s game against the Wolves.

Dennis Smith Jr., however, remained in Dallas. He missed the Phoenix game with mid-back tightness. Friday’s game will mark Smith’s 15th absence of the season. He missed 11 games with a right wrist sprain and two with a right ankle sprain.

“It’s all right; it’s getting better,” Smith said after Wednesday’s game of his back, adding with a smile: “At 21, I guess I started getting kind of old.” His birthday was Nov. 25.
