Arttu Hyry scored twice and Jake Oettinger stopped all 19 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season as the Dallas Stars beat the host Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 on Saturday night.
Jason Robertson also scored and assisted on Roope Hintz’s third-period goal, as the Stars improved to 4-1-1 since losing their first two games of the season.
Hyry, who totaled three goals in 25 games spanning the past two seasons with Dallas, has already matched that total in eight games to open this season after recording his first career multi-goal contest Saturday.
Meanwhile, Oettinger was hardly tested by Chicago, which went 0-for-4 on the power play. Oettinger, who didn’t face more than eight shots on goal in any period, has allowed just six goals on 126 shot attempts while 3-2-1 on the young season.
Dallas, which has yielded 12 non-shootout goals this season, has won 15 of the last 20 meetings versus Chicago.
Spencer Knight made 28 saves for the Blackhawks, who lost for the first time in three games with star Connor Bedard back in the lineup from shoulder surgery. Bedard, who recorded three points in his first two games of the season, was held to two shots on goal Saturday.
Dallas appeared to open the scoring with 7:50 remaining in the first period, but Robertson’s goal was overturned upon a Chicago video review challenge for offside. However, Robertson was rewarded with the game’s first goal at 4:58 into the second period, when he converted a give-and-go with Mikko Rantanen.
The Stars made it 2-0 with 5:50 remaining in the middle frame. After Oettinger made an elbow save on a Chicago redirect, Dallas transitioned into a two-on-one where Sam Steel fed Hyry, who beat Knight on the rush.
Then, amid a line change just 1:27 into the third period, Hyry took a stretch pass from Nils Lundkvist, broke in and sent a backhander past Knight. Dallas added more insurance with 10:20 remaining, when Hintz sent in a successful wrister from the circle through some traffic that appeared to screen Knight.
