On Monday, April 22, 2013, some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment will gather to commemorate Coach Joe Avezzano at the inaugural Joe Avezzano Memorial Golf Classic. Registration begins at 11 am and the tournament will tee off at 1 pm at The Tribute Golf Club in The Colony.

            Joe Avezzano, who was lovingly referred to by all who knew him simply as “Coach Joe”, had a very successful 12-year-run with the Dallas Cowboys during the Super Bowl era of the 90’s.  He was named NFL Special Teams Coach of the Year three times, the only coach in the NFL to do so, and maintained a high profile in North Texas through radio shows, TV appearances, and especially, his generosity to area charities. 

            In the spirit of Joe who loved life and really loved music, the golf tourney will be followed by a spectacular concert at Coach Joe’s Hat Tricks Sports Bar in Lewisville featuring Josh Weathers, Johnny Cooper, Lincoln Durham, Bleu Edmondson, Brandon Jenkins, Bart Crow and several other unadvertised super stars of music! Trophies and awards will be presented at the post-tournament concert.

            The tournament will be played in Scramble with 4-person teams including one celebrity player. Celebs confirmed to participate in the tournament include: Troy Aikman, Preston Pearson, George Dunham, Craig Miller, Brendan Higgins, Mickey Spagnola, Josh Abbott, Wade Bowen, Josh Weathers, Stoney LaRue, Con Hunley, Red Stegall, Derek Kennard, actor Richard Steinmetz (General Hospital), Del Harris, and Scott McGruder. Registration is $500 per person which includes green fees, cart, catered lunch and exclusive goodie bag.             Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Troy Aikman Foundation, a non-profit founded in 1992 to give hospitalized children the ability to learn, imagine and dream through high-tech interacting play centers – known as Zones – constructed in children’s hospitals.
