A Wild NBA Draft Night for the Mavericks

Jerry Jones had to love the Mavericks draft Thursday night because they are busy wheeling and dealing. Dallas twice trading down in the first round before finally settling on University of Miami Point Guard Shane Larkin with the 18th overall pick. Larkin is the son of Hall of Fame baseball player Barry Larkin. As a sophomore at Miami he was a 2nd team All American, averaging 14.5 points and 4.6 assists per game.

The Mavs entered the draft with the 13th overall pick, their highest one in 13 years. They select Center kelly Olynyk out of Gonzaga, but trade him immediately to the Celtics for the 16th pick and two 2nd round picks in 2014. Dallas then chooses 7-foot Brazilian Lucas Noqueira, but that pick is made for the Hawks. Noqueira and last year's first round pick Jared Cunningham are traded to Atlanta for another future second rounder.
